NEW SACHET PACKAGING -
PAPER INSTEAD OF PLASTIC
Can be recycled and reused in the waste paper cycle
The UGC Group is setting new standards in packaging development: for a high-quality bath salt from our Water&Salt brand, we have developed a paper-based sachet packaging with an integrated barrier for a developed – recyclable in the waste paper cycle, food-safe and paper instead of plastic.
📊 The background: billions of disposable sachets are a burden on the system
In Germany alone, over 5.8 billion sachets in the food and non-food sectors are put into circulation every year. This disposable packaging consists of non-recyclable composite material, such as multi-layer plastic or aluminum foil. Recycling is not possible – the result: thermal utilization (incineration) instead of a circular economy.
As all sachets must be printed by law – whether for marketing or consumer protection reasons – they are not yet recyclable in the sense of a cradle-to-cradle system.

♻️ Our solution: paper sachets with barrier – designable and recyclable
Our new technology now enables a real change:
Paper-based sachets with a functional barrier that are fully recyclable in the waste paper cycle despite printing – tested and compliant with the requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
✔️ Printed, but compatible with the system
✔️ Paper instead of plastic
✔️ No downcycling – but real recycling
✔️ Protection against moisture, oil, oxygen and loss of aroma
By switching technology to paper as a resource, we are able to conserve valuable raw materials while consistently reducing or avoiding the use of critical materials.
